Boredom + deep fryer .... O.O
So, today at work I deep fried 2 twinkies (didn't eat them, just tasted one) several pickles, attempted 2 candy bars and other various items...
Deep fried pickles are not as weird as i thought...
Deep fried twinkies are sinful and I couldn't eat more than a bite.
Good times....

Fried Pickles are actually a well-liked dish around Auburn where my sister goes to school. I have tasted it before and it was just a hot pickle, really.

I swear the whole time I kept hearing Matt Smith's voice saying "You're Scottish, fry something!" XD
Not just Scottish though, also southern U.S. lol.
I swear they'll deep fry anything at the fair these days
I couldn't eat much of it at all- too greasy, but kinda fun as an experiment.
The candy bars didn't work so well, batter kept sliding off the chocolate, I think they have to be frozen first...

Made me think of a Mc Donalds hamburger pickle- you know the ones, they sit on the hamburger and get kinda hot and wilted- but with a crispy batter coating. I definitely wouldn't go out of my way for them, but not as strange as I thought it would be.

Mmmmmm....fried pickles. The best kind are the hamburger chips. When you deep fry them for a while they get nice and crispy. Give me some chipotle mayo and I am a happy man.

YES! This. I soooo love them. Fried pickle chips with fresh grated Parmesan on top and some ranch dressing. This is my appetizer of choice at Texas Roadhouse. <3 *love*

Id like to fry up some goldenbergs peanut chews ( my no. Two fave candy)
maybe if you dusted. The candy bars in flour or powdered sugar first the batter would stick?
how about deep frying bacon pie?

I think the trick to the candy bars is battering them, then freezing them before frying, but we never got that far.
I don't know about deep fried bacon pie, but we deep fry the bacon all the time when it's not cooking fast enough on the grill at work, just to crisp it up.
The top winner for delicious in all the experimenting was cinnamon sugar tortilla chips served with a side of vanilla ice cream drizzled with caramel.
It's not even on the menu and we have people coming in to request it now XD

What kind of batter would you even use for a candy bar? And don't frozen thing tend to explode into fireballs when fried because of the moisture? Like turkeys, pork, and such.

Probably a plain old batter, maybe even pancake batter, and we fry frozen battered things all the time at work. As long as there aren't a bunch of ice crystals all over it it does fine.

How about a tempura? It's light, you just need to coat the chocolate bar in flour and then dip into the tempura batter.

Problem with the candy bar is that the chocolate melts before the batter sets up to keep the chocolate inside. So if you freeze it it gives the batter a chance to set and you get gooey melty chocolate inside

It would taste fine, tempura itself doesn't really have a flavor.

Cake batter would be better, in that it's a batter, instead of a dough. I'd say that pancake batter, waffle batter, or beer batter are your best bets.

The one thing I have yet to see any one post about is DEEP FRIED OREOS! They always have them at the county fair. I am partial to deep fried jalapeƱos with cream cheese- yum!
