Speaking as an old dude who could not pull off the hawk, the previously stated facts are true.

If you need permission for the mohawk, you can do the mohawk.

And while I might enjoy Glee now and again, you are not a Glee club member in a fakkin' sitcom. The mohawk went into style for a reason, otherwise it would have died out long before any of us were ever thought of, our parents and grandparents too.
