Very nice work, and it looks good on you.
I'm making a scalemail bikini for an acquaintance so I am learning to appreciate what goes into making that kind of thing.

I want to start making some scalemail but frankly right now I don't have the time or materials.LyingBastard wrote:Very nice work, and it looks good on you.

Time I cannot help you with. Materials? I have a friend that made one out of soda can tops. Not sure how she got them meshed together, but I could probably find out. Photos looked good, but I did not see it close up though. She finished it after the con we met in person at.

You order them by the 100 or 1000 from The Ring Lord. Or at least, I did. What material scale are you looking for?
They have sterling silver, stainless clad aluminum, mild steel, titanium, nickel plated, yellow brass, bronze, aluminum in a variety of finishes and anodized aluminum in multiple colors...
A scale sampler will run you $3.75 plus shipping.

I would love to do silver but I know that is not cost effective... right now I am leaning towards a bronze, steel, copper feel.LyingBastard wrote:You order them by the 100 or 1000 from The Ring Lord. Or at least, I did. What material scale are you looking for?

Bronze small scales are $53.50 / 1000, which is 2.5 lbs of scales. Each Scale is 9/16 by 7/8 inches, and there are roughly 1000 / sq ft.
Bronze large scales are $145 / 1000, which is 8.5 lbs of scales. Each Scale is 7/8 by 1.41 inches, and there are roughly 300 / sq ft.

Sterling silver, only available in small rings, are $0.84 EACH - or $840.00 / 1000.

Re: Leather > Pleather
The Anodized Aluminum scales are WAYYY cheaper. http://theringlord.com/cart/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=185&cat=Aluminum+and+Anodized+Aluminum+Scales+for+Scalemail&websess=82663559234137
Granted they're only sold by the 100, not 1000. Bronze-finish AA large scales are $5.00 per 100, and 300 per square foot. That's $50.00 per 1000 instead of $145.00.

Working with AA scales is dead easy. And the AA ones are sooo light.

Yeah, that's why I'm going with those - specifically, the clear coated anodized aluminum ones - for V's Red Sonja outfit. The cups will have to be backed with fabric, but other than that, shouldn't be a problem.

You get a helluva lot of coverage if you use small split rings to join them together. I haven't seen them in action, but I know that Fergie of Black Eyed Peas wore something crafted from/by TRL.
